How Amazon FBA Fees Work

Amazon FBA sellers face one of the most complex fee structures in ecommerce. Between referral fees, FBA fulfillment costs, storage charges, and advertising spend, your true profit can be very different from what your sales dashboard shows.

Amazon's fee structure starts with a referral fee — typically 15% of the sale price — applied to every transaction. Then FBA adds fulfillment fees based on product size and weight, which can range from about $3 to over $10 per item. On top of that, inventory storage fees are charged monthly based on cubic footage, with rates nearly tripling during the Q4 holiday season.

Our Amazon FBA Profit Margin Calculator helps you untangle all these costs. Enter your selling price, cost of goods, FBA fulfillment fee, monthly storage estimate, and ad spend to get an instant profit breakdown. Use the pre-loaded scenarios to compare standard-size versus large items, and see exactly how each fee category impacts your bottom line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Amazon's referral fees?+
Amazon charges a referral fee on the total sales price, including the shipping you charge the buyer. This calculator models 15%, the common general-merchandise rate; actual rates run about 8-15% by category, with higher rates in some categories and a per-item minimum. Check your own category before pricing.
How are FBA fulfillment fees calculated?+
FBA fulfilment fees are set by size tier and shipping weight, and Amazon has changed them twice in 2026: rates rose an average of $0.08 per unit on 15 January, and a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge was added to US and Canada fulfilment fees on 17 April. Take the surcharged per-unit figure from your own Seller Central fee preview and enter it here — this calculator does not yet derive it from dimensions.
How much are Amazon FBA storage fees?+
Monthly storage is charged per cubic foot and rises sharply from October through December, with long-term surcharges on inventory held over a year. Enter your monthly storage estimate and this calculator keeps it in the monthly view, where it belongs, instead of charging it against a single order.
Does this calculator include the 2026 fuel surcharge?+
Not automatically. The fulfilment fee you enter is used exactly as typed, so include the 3.5% surcharge that has applied since 17 April 2026. Referral fees were verified against Amazon's published schedule on 2026-08-22; every fee change we apply is dated and sourced on our changelog.
